Window Cleaning

First, remove the window screens. The least time consuming way to remove window screens is by doing them all at once. You will probably need a ladder in order to gain access to windows on upper levels of the house. Before climbing the ladder, make sure that it is on a stable surface. It would also be a good idea for someone to hold the ladder at the bottom for added support and safety. When you remove each window screen, mark it so that you will know which window it belongs to. You can do this using tape and a marker or with chalk.

You may have noticed that the majority of store-bought window cleaners leave streaks, in spite of adamantly claiming the opposite. A less expensive, streak-free solution can be made with water and dish washing detergent. Only use about one teaspoon of detergent with a gallon of water. Make sure that you don’t use too much soap or it will leave streaks. One of the best tools for window cleaning is a squeegee. Although it is fine if you choose to use a towel to dry the windows, a squeegee will clean and dry in a fraction of the time.  You will also need a sponge or a sponge mop and clean cloths.

Now it is time to do the actual window cleaning. Dampen the sponge or sponge mop with your cleaning solution and apply it all over the outside of the window. Then place the squeegee at the top of the window and drag downward until you hit the bottom. Wipe the squeegee dry with a damp cloth and return the squeegee to the top of the window. Make sure it slightly overlaps the recently cleaned section. Drag it downward again to the bottom of the window. Repeat this process until you have cleaned the entire window before moving on to the next one.
